Black Square Blitz Finals

Each Month, Black Square Chess holds a Blitz Tournament on the first Sunday of every month (minus January). At these tournaments, Juniors play to accumulate points to their total yearly score. 

If they can reach 200 points, they are invited to our year end tournament, The Black Square Blitz Finals.

In 2025, we had tournaments in Hobart and Launceston and the finals were held in December on the 13th. (National Interschool Finals take up the first weekend in December). 

The tournament comprised of 5 rounds of Blitz Chess and then the last two rounds were semi-finals and finals of each division, crowning an Elite Above 1000 Champion, Under 1000 Champion and Launceston Champion. 

In 2026, we endeavor to include Devonport in the 2026 edition of the Black Square Blitz.

1st Over 1000 and 2026 Black Square Blitz Champion: Yusuf Khodjaev

2nd Over 1000: Esteban Prieto

Under 1000 Champion: Theo Rettalick

Under 1000 Second Place: Lachlan Gleeson

Launceston Champion: Angelo Arachchilage

Launceston 2nd Place: Allan Burn
